Young Promoters Scheme

The Essex on Tour Young Promoters Scheme was set up with support from the Arts Council of England.

The Scheme enables groups of young people between the ages of eleven and twenty to choose and promote a professional performance in their community venue. This could be part of a drama group, youth club, village hall or school.

Groups work with an adult team leader who plays an essential part in overseeing the training and promoting processes, taking ultimate responsibility for the health, safety and finances of their promotion.  The success of the scheme relies on the fact that the group members take responsibility for promoting the show.

Our Essex on Tour representative delivers a programme of seminars covering the different aspects of promoting a show and event management.

  • Box Office - budgets and pricing, staff

  • Marketing – target audience, distribution, press

  • Stage Management – looking after the company, health and safety, the venue, check lists

  • Front of House – looking after the audience, Health and safety

Seminars can be held before, during or after school at a time that suits the group. Each session lasts approximately one hour and has an accompanying worksheet.

The Young Promoters Scheme has worked in Boswells School in Chelmsford as part of the Performing Arts A/S level course; Castle View School on Canvey Island as part of the Extended Schools Initiative; Rickstones School in Witham as part of the Performing Arts AVCE; and St Peter's High School in Burnham on Crouch as part of their Performing Arts BTEC. Performances included Cellorhythmics, Meat and Two Veg by Cartoon de Salvo and I Am A Viking by Gonzo Moose.
